We lucked out with wedding planning. We were engaged in January 2006 and didn’t set a date until that April. Never a girl who had her whole wedding planned out by the time she was ten, I took my time planning and doing things for the wedding. The dress I choose was the second one I tried on. The venue we picked was the only one we looked at. It was all inclusive and perfect for what we wanted. Our JP was a family friend and a woman I knew through scrap booking. Coincidentally she lives on the lake my family has vacationed for years so I was sold. Our photographer? Only one we met with.
Naturally the universe has its own way of balancing this out. It choose to do this with finding our first home.
Part of me wishes I lived up to my listful ways and kept track of all the houses we’ve seen. I think we’ve been through at least 50 of them in the nearly three months we’ve been looking. We’ve probably looked at triple that online through our Realtor and our own searches. Our search is simple, we have a budget and would like at least three bedrooms, two baths, a large kitchen and a fireplace and garage are pluses.
A few weeks ago we spent another Friday date night with our Realtor and at the end we must have looked dejected. Our Realtor, Linda, commented that we must be sick of looking at houses. It wasn’t so much that – it’s fun to go through other people’s houses and see how they decorate and get ideas of our own (though I can do without the condo that had pink carpeting everywhere- including the bathroom and kitchen. That’s just no sanitary people!). It’s just that I was started to think we wouldn’t find what we were looking for and would have to wait a while in order to get it. Purchasing a house should not be taken lightly – it’s a huge life changing thing.
We were starting to prepare ourselves to wait another year and save and save.
But then we went just 10k over what we were looking at originally, and lo and behold we found some amazing houses. Houses that were pretty much move-in ready. Houses that I could picture us living in. It was like the heavens opened up and I was hearing cherubs strumming harps.
And then I felt sick because I knew that for 30 years we would be responsible for paying a mortgage. Can’t get more grown up than that!
Then I got over that and thought about all my plans for paint, landscaping, and wouldn’t a puppy just have a ball in this gorgeous acre of land?????
This is the roller coaster called HOLYCOWWEMAYGETAHOUSE!
This past Saturday we brought our parents over to a house we reallyreally like. And guess what? They reallyreally like it too. My dad even said that if we do get it, he wants us to use one of the bedrooms as a guestroom because he’ll be there on weekends.
The only thing is the timing can’t be more off. I’m away right now on a business trip and won’t be back until Thursday. We’re working on possibly putting in a bid. I’m a firm believer in what’s supposed to happen, happens so perhaps this house will wait just a little bit for me to come back and for it to be ours.
Fingers crossed!
