Wow, we couldn’t have asked for a better weekend! The weather was gorgeous. We hosted a Housewarming/Hubby’s Birthday BBQ in our backyard on Saturday and it was amazing how many people came and how we can fit tons of people at our new house. Our backyard is perfect for events like this – my  mom bought a couple of tents to go over the tables to provide shade – it worked perfectly.

People brought all kinds of yummy food. Well, I think the food was yummy, I barely got a chance to eat! The difficult thing about hosting parties like this is that you are constantly running around and it’s hard to sit down and have a conversation or sit down and eat. We may do this yearly and if that’s the case I think I need to think about ways I can spend more time with my guests and the food!

Really, I think it was a success – if only because it brought my neighbors together. We invited the neighbors on both sides of our house (and the ones that live across the street but they were sailing all day) and they had never met eachother! My neighbors rule though – one of my coworkers came up to me and said she spent some time talking to them and they were really down to earth and nice. We lucked out! Turns out the neighbors with the adorable kids used to live on the lake Aunt Char lives on – it’s another “wedding connection” (I will have to make a post about all the wierd connections between Scott and I and our families).

The biggest suprise was the cake my mom and I got for Scott. Well, the idea was mine but my mom did all the hard work of getting the cake! I really appreciate it – it was a big help. So, are you familiar with Rickrolling? Pretty much it’s an internet thing where someone will send you a link and say something vague like: Check this out! It’s soooo cool!” and you click on the link and it takes you here and – oh my gosh you’ve been Rickrolled! Even the Muppets have been Rickrolled.

Anyway, my mom downloaded the Rick Astley song to her i-Pod, we had it blasting and I presented the cake to hubby. He loved it! Most of his friends who are geeky tech IT people loved it too! Hysterical. So here’s the cake:

So yes, we had a wonderful day. It ended with beer pong, the Olympics and some good heart to hearts. My family is wonderful, my friends are awesome and I love my husband more than anything. :) Never gonna give him up.

Yesterday I spent about three hours on our deck reading in the sunshine. I also got a little sunburn but that’s not the point of this post (owie!). Finally I finished the book I have been reading for a couple of months now – mostly because of the whole packing/moving thing. I then moved onto the Eric Clapton autobiography which my dad will be happy with so I can give it back to him!

Last night I updated my books read in 2008 page and realize I haven’t finished a book since May! That’s horrible! So embarassed! To remedy this, I’m going to plan to do some reading every night. Really I don’t know why I don’t do that now since it always relaxes me before bed. And I’m excited because I have two fluffy books coming my way since the last three books I’ve read were all autobiographies. And about Rock & Roll apparently!

So if you have any suggestions on what I should read or an author you love, send them my way!

On another note, today is my hubby’s birthday today and I’m so excited. We’re going to go to a Mexican restaurant that we go to every year for his bday because they send us a coupon. We’re suckers for advertising.  Yay for Mexican and margaritas! Yay for hubby’s first annual 29th birthday!!!

Things that I am into (at the moment):

  • Wearing headbands. Seriously. Wearing one right now. I don’t know if it’s because it is summer or if I’m just lazy but I haven’t really done my hair in a long time. Lately I just give it a light blow dry with a diffuser and throw a headband on and out the door. It’s awesome.

  • My job.  I’ve been given a new title and new responsibilities. I’m also working on a new study so it’s been refreshing. I’m also working with new staff – NEW NEW NEW works wonders. Lately I’ve found I’m excited about what I’m doing again, it’s been an awakening.

  • Twittering. Ok, so I’ve been doing it for a while now but with my handy-dandy BlackBerry it’s even easier to do! And I love reading other’s tweets!

  • Light Beer. I’m a beer snob. Mostly due to my husband (he still cannot get over the fact that when we started dating I was drinking Corona. Blasphemy!). Last week I bought a 6 pack of Sam’s Light for a friend because his fiancé told me that’s what he drinks – she turned out to be wrong. I had a bottle of it so it wouldn’t go to waste and it was nice and…well light! I don’t think it will be my drink of choice (Sam Summer, Sam regular, and Sam Winter all have my votes!) but it’s nice for the summer…besides the Summer Ale. I think we’re getting a keg of Sam Light for our BBQ.

  • Organization. We’re still unpacking boxes at the house and I’m bouncing all over the place for work and have a million and one things to keep on top of. I have to be organized or I will sink! One of my lovely new coworkers actually called me the other day after she left to tell me how organized I am and how she admires that. It felt really good. I’ve been trying a new system at work and so far it’s working. Of course a month from now I may need to find a new system but oh well. And my BlackBerry (I know, I know – shutup!) has been amazing. I’ve been using the notes application like it’s going out of style! It’s great for shopping lists, lists of books I want to read (so if I’m in a library or bookstore unexpectedly I know what to look for), keeping track of who’s coming to the BBQ and what they are brining, etc.

  • The weekend. Because it’s just around the corner! It will be filled with Stampin’ Up! club, home improvement store shopping, time with my parents, and the usual Sunday cleaning. Joy!

If you know me well, you know I love all things crafty. I started off with scrapbooking – in fact that’s how my MIL and I bonded. We would spend at least one Saturday a month – all day long – scrapbooking. It was so much fun. In fact I was scrapbooking with my MIL the day Scott went to talk to my parents about asking me to marry him and then picked out the ring. The whole time I thought he was helping my BIL move. True story!

So, scrapbooking led to card making. Making cards is so much fun and I really haven’t bought a card in a really long time. It’s such a personal touch to send a home made card. Anyway, I joined a Stampin’ Up! club last December that happens to be run by a coworker’s sister-in-law. The club is fun we meet one Saturday a month – there are women of all ages there and we make cards, learn new techniques, eat junk food and talk about our husbands and family and just have a great time with the “girls”.

When we bought the house, it was time for club renewal and I thought long and hard about it. Since we’d be tight on money for a little bit and I wasn’t sure how much time we’d be spending doing things around the house, I decided to withdraw. It was a very sad decision.

I would still make cards from time to time but not have that dedicated once a month date. And our SU! demonstrator does parties so I thought I could book a Saturday and invited family and friends who haven’t done this sort of thing before.

Then I found out that the club needed just one more member to be even. I hemmed and hawed. We’ve realized all of our weekends aren’t going to be spent fixing/doing things around the house. And we could really afford it if I stuck close to the $25 order each month. So I re-joined! I’m so excited!

With that being said, there’s a place called Splitcoast Stampers where people put up cards they have made and the items they used to make them. It’s a great place for inspiration and anytime I think about getting a stamp set I just look it up and see what people have done with it. My coworker found the popsicle card and we fell in love! So we asked our SU! demonstrator to show us how to make it during our club last month. Turns out it’s pretty simple!

Since hubby and I wanted to have a BBQ housewarming/bday party for his birthday, I decided to make the popsicle card for the invitations. I had some help – during lunch a couple of coworkers and I did a bulk of the work and Saturday morning hubby and I finished the rest. Since I think everyone received them in the mail already, I wanted to share them with you.

Aren’t they adorable! We do some really neat projects in our club – I’d love to share them all here.

Our old apartment was on a busy, main road in our town. Therefore we didn’t get much wildlife. Not to mention we didn’t really have a back or front yard. When we chose to buy our house, one of the main selling points was that it’s on a quiet street with plenty of wooded areas and lots of lawn. Our street curves around like a U shape and meets back up with another side road. Pretty much the only traffic we get are people that live on this street. It’s lovely.

It also means that we get some wildlife. So far we have a fat woodchuck that I think hubilicious has named Percy? The name changes all the time. We also have turtles and bunnies. My mom also set up a birdfeeder so we have plenty of birds. But, I’ve been patiently awaiting deer.

Sunday morning I got up and was putzing around doing some light cleaning. Hubs and I sat down in our living room with coffee and cereal. Hubilicious was going to mow the lawn that morning but decided against it. I was sitting in the recliner that’s right next to our backdoor looking outside when I thought I saw a golden retreiver with a wagging tail go to the side of the house. I was intrigued as we hadn’t seen any dogs in our yard aside from the neighbors but there’s is a black and white mutt type thing.

I got up and realized it was a small deer! Then hubbie noticed another small one. We tiptoed to kitchen which has another door and saw it eating the leaves off of trees. We watched them for a good ten minutes and then hubilicious noticed a large female deer (we think – we didn’t see antlers) in the woods. She didn’t come out onto our lawn at all. The two small deer mozied around our backyard a bit and then trekked through our neighbors. It was exciting!

Here’s one of the better photos I took. A deer by the feeders my mom gave us:

Right at the feeder!

It’s a good thing hubilicious didn’t mow the lawn or we would have missed out on this!

So I have a love/hate relationship with Old Navy. 9 times out of 10 their jeans fit me better than any other store’s jeans. And I love the prices. But I hate…hate the styles they have sometimes. I can’t wear hip hugger/thong showing pants anymore. Everything either looks too frumpy and too much like I’m heading out to an APD party in college.

But recently Heidi has been lamenting their fall line. This morning I received an email from Old Navy about their new clothes too.

And I’m really loving this look:

Click here for the link. Maybe it’s my obsession with butterflies and all things pink.

What’s your fave?

What a wonderfully productive weekend! I enjoy reflecting on Sunday evening on a weekend where I feel I’ve accomplished something. Things we got done this weekend include:

  • Had Kelly and Harley over for pizza and to see the new house. And Kelly is starting to show!
  • Early Saturday morning oil change – my car was vacuumed and washed and there were no other customers there at the shop that morning
  • picked up the new Disney stamps
  • finished the invitations to our Housewarming/Birthday BBQ (Hubilicious’ bday) – they are so cute! Will post a picture later this week
  • Mailed invites
  • Visited the in-laws before they left for Disney
  • Braved Wal-Mart on a Saturday afternoon for cleaning supplies and food.
  • Watched One Fine Day in one sitting – I’ve only seen it in bits and pieces
  • Did 4 loads of laundry
  • Watered my plants
  • Filled the birdfeeder
  • Unpacked boxes upstairs and in the living room – progress people!
  • Vacuumed all of downstairs and the hallway upstairs
  • Cleaned both bathrooms
  • Saw three deer in our yard this morning! So far we’ve had a big woodchuck, a bunny, and a hummingbird. The deer is the icing on the cake!
  • Cleaned up the basement a bit – put the boxes of seasonal items in a neat spot
  • Watched part of a Scrubs marathon – all my fave episodes!
  • Set coffee for tomorrow morning
  • Read some more of a book I’ve been reading for two months – it’s not that the book sucks it’s just that I haven’t allowed myself reading time.

My poor blog has been neglected as of late right? But I also feel like others have been slow going too so I don’t feel so bad…..Ok, who am I kidding, I feel guilty. I always find something to feel guilty about.

Maybe it’s summer. When August hits, everyone scrambles to scratch off things on their summer to-do list because once September hits, forget it! Even though most of September is still considered summer… Admittedly we have not accomplished anything off our list. I blame the house – the moving, painting, etc. Even now we spend each night moving boxes to their appropriate room and unpack boxes. Can’t wait for that to be over.

Though I have learned that part of the CT wine trail? Is about five minutes from my house. And there are lovely hiking trails nearby too. I’ve decided to try those out in the next weekends. And I will be able to scratch off the beach part Labor Day weekend (hopefully, as I’ve made plans with a friend who has been flaky). And the big BBQ one will be accomplished in a few weeks as well.

Other than that, I have been pretty content. I fall in love with my house more and more each day and am very satisfied spending time and adding our own little personal touches to it.

Hopefully I will post about our fabulous weekend and our trip to a Hibachi restaurant. It was my first time! Sake bombs were involved…
