I will never forget my first digital camera. In 2003 after working hard to pay off my Mazda Protege a year early, I figured out how much money I’d save on interest alone. It was enough to buy myself a digital camera. After making my final car payment and with the title to my VERY OWN car in my possession, I decided to purchase a digital camera. I researched it a bit and decided on a Nikon CoolPix. My dad loaned me part of the money (it was on sale and I had to have it! I paid him back every cent) so I went to the camera shop (yes, an actual camera shop and not a Best Buy or anything like that) and plunked down my money for the camera, memory card and extra battery. I was in love.

It was so liberating to just take photos and not care about completing a roll of film. Nor did I care if I was getting perfect shots – I just kept clicking! It had the capability of taking videos too – just no sound. That camera took many photos through my life – the day I stood in the freezing cold to shake Dave Matthews’ hand on the Today show – captured on that camera. The first time I went skiing ever – Okemo! Trusty Nikon was there. My first trip to Disney World with my boyfriend – captured on the CoolPix. The day said boyfriend proposed during my second trip to Disney in Franceno less? Yup, the ever faithful CoolPix was there.  Many hikes, vacations in Vermont, fun times with good friends, weddings, fuzzy pets, and cute babies were photographed with my beloved CoolPix.

When we came back from that second Disney trip, my mom surprised me with a new digital camera as an engagement gift. A FujiFilm Finepix. It was nice to upgrade, more megapixels and the videos had sound. I passed on my beloved CoolPix to my brother in law who went on to use it for another year taking photos of sports cars and who knows what else.

I love photography. I love taking pictures. It’s just too bad this is an expensive hobby. Keeping up with the latest technology is really difficult. Some day when I have more time I will own a fancy SLR. But for now, I’m fine with a point and shoot that has some manual capabilities.

My Finepix started to fall apart and not take photos on demand. The rechargable batteries probably need to be chucked since they stopped holding their charge for long. It got some good use out of it though. I definitely have started to take more photos as I started Project 365 with it. The wear and tear got annoying.

I had saved a link to a Canon PowerShot SD1100 Digital ELPH after seeing one of my favorite photographers raveabout this camera (if you click on that link you will see photos she took with the camera – the previous post talks about her purchasing the camera). And it came in pink no less! It went on my wishlist where it sat for a couple of months. Last week I decided to check it out and it had dropped nearly $100 in price (a newer model must be coming out)! I had a gift certificate too. It was too good to pass up so I ordered the camera and a 4GB SDHC card. Amazon is amazing – even with free shipping and the holiday weekend coming up, I received the camera in three days and the card in 4. Luckily I just happened to have a spare 2GB SD card in a digital frame that I wiped clean so I could play with my new camera.

This camera is awesome. It’s so much smaller than any camera I’ve owned. You could easily stick it in your pocket and walk around with it and not be uncomfortable. It takes really clear photos and has neat settings like Aquarium, Color Accent and Color Swap.

But me? I have always been a fan of the macro setting. When I went out to the winery near my house this weekend, I couldn’t resist:

Awesome right? I can’t wait to print off a bunch of the photos of flowers I have taken and have them matted and framed and put them up around my house – so cheerful.

Labor Day I had the house to myself as hubby worked for lots of overtime cash. Of course I terrorized the kitties with my camera:

Oliver is so adorable and photogenic.

So yes, be prepared to see many photos on here in the future!
