I know it’s probably because of the age and place in life my friends and I are at but there seems to be a spark in people who we know personally who are having babies. Within a two day timespan earlier this month, two of my friends had babies. Another is pregnant and will give birth later this year. It’s a little crazy but I love it all the same!
It’s been a looong time since I’ve been around a newborn. When we went to visit my friend Kelly after having her daughter, I cried the moment I stepped into the maternity room. Kelly and I have known eachother since middleschool (holy crap, just realized we’ve known eachother for a good 17 years!). We’ve been through so much and have seen eachother through most of the milestones in life. To see a good friend like that with a baby and so happy was just….amazing. I’ve never been so happy for someone else like that before. Honestly.
Also, I was blown away by how much love Kelly and her fiance had for this little baby. I’ve always heard stories of how much a baby can change a person and all but I saw it with my own eyes. Kelly’s fiance is the daddy now. He takes care of his daughter like I’ve never seen anyone before. I could tell this little girl is going to be a daddy’s girl and she will be brought up in the best home ever.
When I held the little bundle of baby chub I sat there for a good 10 minutes just watching her. She’s not the first baby ever born or the first one to ever make faces or look adorable but for those 10 minutes, in my eyes, she was. It’s amazing to hold a little human like that – so new to the world. I started to think of how her personality was going to be, how she was the only person in the room to not have experienced some of the bad things in life, how she was just content in my arms, what she was going to grow up to be…how the world will be much different when she grows up. But then I just sat there and watched her. I don’t want to rush her into growing up – I will enjoy all the time I have with her in her life
