Saturday night we braced ourselves for the hurricane. Leading up to then, we had secured and put away most of the items in our yard that we thought might be damaged or blow away in the storm. After midnight, the wind started picking up. We lost power around 7am and it’s still out. A tree went down on the wires a street over.
It was nice to hang out with my little family without all kinds of distractions going on. The only thing I really missed was a hot cup of coffee. Once the storm passed, we got word that my inlaws had power so we debated taking the drive over to take showers and such. Plus, my husband has to go into work and it is a short drive in from there.
We finally decided to just go. The roads were just awful. Trees on powerlines, trees in the middle of the road. So scary. We made it safely.
So far, I’ve heard from most of my family and friends and everyone is safe – that’s all that matters. We’ll be doing a lot of clean up in the weeks to come but we’re all ok.
Here’s a shot from outside my front door. We have a large tree in front of the house and this branch fell:

I’m so glad that you guys are safe! I can’t even imagine how scary something like Irene is.
It was pretty scary. We live in the eastern part of the state so we got most of the wind. Central part of the state has lots of flooding. Just lucky it wasn’t worse than it was!
So glad to hear you all made it safe! We had lots of rain and flooding but never lost power or cable…
You are very lucky! We’re still out as are many of my coworkers. I’m thinking that we won’t get power back until next week sometime. Trying not to get my hopes up!
Glad you are safe too!
